How to be safe post storm? | SERVPRO® of Wilson County

10/16/2019 (Permalink)

The most crucial time for survival during storms is the first three hours following the passing of the storm cell. Often times, there is plenty of advice on how to prepare prior to and during the storm, but not enough attention is brought to how to survive after.

It is human nature for individuals want to assess the damage sustained by their community, but this typically leads to more stress for emergency personnel and injury to those braving the weather.

Three steps to better ensure your safety following a storm are:

  1. Do not go outside until it has been declared safe
  2. Remain cautious of downed power lines and standing water
  3. Do not enter buildings that have structural damage

By following the above steps, the safety will be significantly increased for yourself and those you love.
